What We Believe
We believe that the Bible is God’s Word. It alone is the basis for our faith and practice. The Bible testifies to itself as being the very writing of God—that is to say, holy men wrote as they were moved along by God. The Bible is not to be understood according to anyone’s personal interpretation, but as God intended it to be understood through its original authors.
The Bible reveals, and our experience testifies to the fact, that all men have sinned. Men have missed in word, action, and thought the standard that God, their Creator, justly established. Men have rebelled against God, and have sought to go their own way. We believe that this rebellious sin condemns men. The Bible reveals that the wage that this sin justly deserves is death.
Yet God so loved the world that He devised a plan to pay the debt of our sin. Because God is a righteous Judge, the debt cannot be simply overlooked; because God is loving, He devised a means whereby it might be satisfied. God’s plan was to send His only Son, Jesus Christ, to earth in the form of a baby. Jesus lived a sinless life, and according to God’s plan, He died in the sinner's place. He died on a cross, was buried, and three days later rose from the dead. It was by His sinless life, His death, and His resurrection that He paid the debt that man’s sin deserved. God made this provision for our sin-debt, but if you are to realize that provision in your own life, one thing is required. The Bible tells us that if we will confess and turn from our sin, believe in Jesus Christ—in His sinless life, in His death, and in His victorious resurrection—then our sin-debt will be paid. We refer to this provision as the Gospel, a word that means “Good News.” “If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9).
Our salvation is completely a work of God; you don’t—and in fact can’t—do anything to earn it. If you are to receive it, you must entirely accept it as a gift. It is not by works of righteousness that we have done, but according to His mercy that he saves us (Titus 3:5).
This is not a trivial subject. It is a matter of life and death—eternal life and death. If you were to die today, do you know where you would spend eternity? Salvation brings eternal life. Death apart from Christ brings eternal judgment. If you have questions regarding what you have read, it is our desire to help you gain the answers.
